An Early “Fold” Drawing by LeWitt

bulletin 43 (7 September-2 October 1971).

[4] pp. Single folded A3 sheet. Amsterdam: Art & Project, 1971.

LeWitt’s scarce third Art & Project bulletin, this copy is in excellent condition with the additional folds forming 48 rectangles. It is one of several bulletins that were intentionally left blank by the artists designing them.

“Sol LeWitt’s Bulletin 43 is another issue that is blank inside, but in this case LeWitt had each closed Bulletin folded vertically and three time horizontally to create 48 rectangles when the Bulletin is opened up…At first sight, the rectangles created out of Bulletin 43 each appear to be squares, but the fact that international standard paper sizes, A4 and A3 etc., were designed to maintain their proportions (width to height equals one to the square root of two) when folded, affects this attempt.”–Clive Phillpot, “‘Everything Just Floating’ – The Art & Project Bulletins,” in Art & Project Bulletins 1-156, September 1968-November 1989 (2011), p. 21.

A well-preserved copy, fine. From an edition of ca. 800 copies.
