The catalogue for Kawara’s second show at Pierre Huber’s Art & Public gallery in Geneva, held a decade later after the first. Executed in Sydney, New York, Bordeaux, Frankfurt, and Fuginomiya, 10 “Date Paintings” were displayed, each of which is illustrated in the catalogue. This book’s design is identical to the catalogue from the artist’s first show with Huber in 1994. The curator Thierry Davila’s essay (in French and English) on Kawara’s artistic practice is entitled, “Prendre Date/Setting a Date.”

From Davila’s essay: “On Kawara has invented an unusual, striking way of making art, where he exposes himself to duration by showing the relentless unfolding of chronology, taking the time, one’s own time. He has found a ‘user’s guide’ for the calendar which has its unique shaping, its personalized, yet not individual, pre-individual implementation. The calendar as the on-going creation of art, held in the artist’s hand, set in motion by its soundless, faceless wordless, inspiration (psyche)…”
