Five die-cut wood engravings (all signed & numbered by the artist). [13] text leaves printed in colors & stocks. Housed in orig. printed & die-cut orange portfolio (285 x 240 mm.) with flaps (a little worn). La Plata: L. Zidarich, 1970.

A rare portfolio of original illustrations by the artist Edgardo-Antonio Vigo (1928-97), it is one of 500 numbered copies, with five signed wood engravings by the artist, accompanied by text composed by Argentine playwright Jorge D’Elía (b. 1938). In 1967, Vigo founded the Museo de la Xilografía, a roving museum with no fixed location which existed in his briefcase and wherever he took it. The museum collection consisted of thousands of wood engravings donated by fellow artists in Argentina and across Latin America.

The title-leaf opens (in trans.): “What a life…(it was one of those afternoon when Buenos Aires makes you want to sit in Plaza de Mayo and toss seeds at people). / jorge d’elía «» edgardo-antonio vigo.” The engravings herein, taken from the original printing blocks carved by Vigo, are sharp impressions and each has meticulously placed die-cut circles allowing the reader to peer through to the next image or leaf of text. The text was rendered by linotype. The kinds of paper used are noted on the final leaf as well as the printing techniques used.

Near fine; the plates and text leaves within are fine and fresh. Copies 1-10 in the edition have specially printed text, our copy is no. 167. WorldCat records just two examples of this work in North America.
