Mayer’s very rare first substantial catalogue which marked the beginning of his creative collaboration with Dieter Roth. Mayer’s publishing firm was founded in 1964 and issued its first catalogue, consisting of eight pages, in 1966. In the present catalogue, Mayer also presents his famous typographical projects like futura, as well as his other collaborations with Emmett Williams, Herman de Vries, Bob Cobbing, Ian Hamilton Finlay, Richard Hamilton, etc. Roth’s first book of poetry, Scheisse, is offered herein — edition of 200, of which 30 were luxury copies.

“After a day or two in Iceland searching for him, with only the P.O. box number 412 to go on, Mayer found Rot. They discovered a mutual interest in experimental bookmaking. Mayer showed him the alphabet series and other prints that he had brought with him and was most encouraged by Rot’s enthusiasm. It was the first time anyone seemed to understand his print process pictures. Rot shared Mayer’s capacity to activate the poetry of print.”–B. Ferran, p. 25.

A fine copy of this scarce publisher catalogue. We know of just a few examples of the 1967 catalogue in institutional collections.
