“In 1969, three shooting stars in American Pop Art were exhibited in their first solo exhibitions outside the gallery context, namely D’Arcangelo, Robert Stanley, and Mel Ramos, advocated for by Rolf Ricke, who had already presented solo exhibitions by the three artists in his gallery in Cologne…It was also Mel Ramos’s largest European exhibition of his pin-up girls to date, in a public institution, which included loans on display privately owned by Peter Ludwig, Charles Wilp, and Rolf Ricke. Ludwig, who always visited the exhibitions at Gegenverkehr, acquired Ramos’s Blue Coat (1966), which is today to be found in the Ludwig Forum in Aachen.”–Brigitte Jacobs van Renswou, “1968-2970: Gegenverkehr – Zentrum für aktuelle Kunst,” Sediment 30: Klaus Honnef, From Conceptual Art to Photography, (2019), p. 19.
