Very rare exhibition catalogue featuring the work of Michael Buthe (1944-94), Markus Lüpertz (b. 1941), Rune Mields (b. 1935), Diethelm Päsler (b. 1942), and Dietmar Ullrich (b. 1940). We locate just a single copy in North America.
There are two texts by Honnef and each artist has a page with a concise biography and a list of their previous solo and group exhibitions. The catalogue has several photographic reproductions of their work.
“Honnef had the idea of doing a group exhibition around a particular theme, that of ‘spatial situations.’ It comprised Buthe with his ripped canvases, Lüpertz with his Westwall works, Ullrich from the Zebra group, going more in the direction of Pop Art, and Päsler, who examined aspects of painting extending into space. This was a way of combining it all. At that time I was making shaped canvases…”–“Rune Mields in Conversation with Brigitte Jacobs van Renswou on February 8, 2019,” Sediment 30: Klaus Honnef, From Conceptual Art to Photography, (2019), p. 40.
