“I have become direction”

This way Brouwn, 25-2-61, 26-2-61: Zeichnungen 1.

49 black & white illus. [62] leaves, printed on rectos only. 4to (240 x 203 mm.), printed softcover, orig. publisher’s glassine jacket (a little soiled). Köln & New York: Verlag Gebr. König, 1971.

A Stanley Brouwn (1935-2017) publication that is now quite scarce; printed in an edition of 500 numbered copies. This book serves as an introduction to the artist’s famed this way brouwn series — initiated in 1960 — in which Brouwn solicited passers-by to draw directions on a sheet of paper, which he then stamped "this way brouwn" and labeled his own work. Reproductions of 49 drawings are presented within.

In very good condition; some soiling to the publisher’s glassine, internally fine and fresh. Our copy was deaccessioned from Peter van Beveren’s Art Information Center, it bears the shelf numbers on spine (written on the glassine) and with library and date stamps on the first blank leaf’s lower corner.
