[From upper cover]: Antipasti. Jonathan MONK.

Source Material for the Restaurant Drawings

[From upper cover]: Antipasti.

Many color illus. [86] pp. 8vo, semi-stiff covers, metal spiral-bound. [New York: Flat Fix, 2016].

From the final page: “This book contains a number of A4 printouts that were used as source material for a series of drawings on restaurant receipts. The printed images show works by artists that interest me.

“Random markings of pencil, paint, torn edges and post-it stickers add to the preliminary nature of this book…a kind of starter for another book of the finished Restaurant Drawings.

“The finished drawings have all been sold for the price of the meal they represent. The owners of the drawings have (on occasion) fed myself and my family over the last year or so…”

Monk has recreated works by Baldessari, Buren, Cadere, Cattelan, Gober, Gonzalez-Torres, Hammons, Hirst, Holzer, Judd, Kippenberger, Koons, Kounellis, LeWitt, Nauman, Prince, Ray, Ruscha, Salvo, Serra, Steinbach, Warhol, Wool, etc.

As new, a superb book that is nicely designed and laid out. Through WorldCat, we only find copies at the Museum of Modern Art (NY) and the New York Public Library among North American institutional collections.
