[From the upper cover]: Special Catalog: Books by Dick Higgins, 1977.

One black & white portrait. 12 unnumbered pages. Tall & slender 8vo (215 x 100 mm.), tan printed wrappers. [New York: Unpublished Editions, 1977].

A very rare catalogue of artists’ books issued by Dick Higgins’s Unpublished Editions, his second publishing outfit after Something Else Press. From the preface: “Our books are actually produced by each artist. Each publication is realized as closely to the artist’s intention as modern technology or finances will allow, without the intervention of conservatising editors, sales directors or accounting departments. For this reason, each has the feeling of authenticity about it which no commercial production could achieve, and while most are not limited editions as such (though some will no doubt become collectors’ items) they therefore have more the authenticity of an autograph than the anonymity of an ordinary publication.”

There is a lengthy biography of Higgins by Camille Gordon (an alter ego created by Higgins) at the beginning of the catalogue.

Fine copy of a rare catalogue.
