Spring 1991, Catalog.

Many illus. in the text, some full-page, & on inside covers. 2 p.l., 80 pp. & order forms. 8vo (215 x 140 mm), printed pictorial wrappers, staple-bound. New York: 1991.

A rare Printed Matter catalogue. It begins with an Introduction by director John Goodwin who writes: “Printed Matter Bookstore at Dia is in its fifteenth year of distributing books by artists to an ever-widening audience that includes students, collectors, educators, librarians, and, of course, other artists. We are delighted to observe that what the founders of Printed Matter dared to assert has indeed come true: the field of artists’ books is an important, accessible medium that, given the means to reach the public, will be of influence and will continue to grow. Printed Matter provides the means for the artist to reach his or her audience.”

This catalogue begins with “Featured Titles” which offers works by Dan Graham, Keith Haring, LeWitt, Ann Lovett, Meredith Monk, Maurizio Nannucci, Maria Nordman, Mary Petruska, Richard Prince, Rene Ricard, Nancy Spero, Lawrence Weiner, Verdi Yahooda, Paul Zelevansky, etc. Each item in this section is illustrated and bibliographic information is provided. The Backlist features the works of Kathy Acker, Sally Alatalo, Baldessari, Beuys, Enzo Cucchi, Hanne Darboven, Duchamp, Jackie Ferrara, Dick Higgins, Nancy Holt, Allan Kaprow, Kippenberger, Alison Knowles, Barbara Kruger, LeWitt, Lucy Lippard, Joan Lyons, Barbara Rosenthal, Dieter Roth, Fred Sandback, Seth Siegelaub, Richard Tuttle, etc. Following this section are listings under Sourcebooks, Audioworks, Videotapes, Periodicals, Flipbooks, then books published by Art Metropole, Hanuman Books, Dia Center for the Arts. Finally, there are “Artists’ Projects” by Baldessari and Cindy Sherman for the purpose of fundraising.

The inside wrappers are both pictures of the Printed Matter shop at Dia. The cover illustration is Untitled by Lise Fløistad from 1990.

Nice copy; some wear to the edges of the upper wrapper.
