[From upper cover]: Katalog Nr. 10, documenta 5, 30. Juni bis 8. October 1972.

Several full-page black & white illus, with ads. Unpaginated. 8vo (208 x 150 mm.), orig. pictorial wrappers (a bit rubbed). Cologne: 1972.

A very rare bookseller’s catalogue prepared for documenta 5, offering countless famed artists’ books. In her fascinating piece on the appearance of books as early as documenta 5, Anna Sigrídur Arnar writes: “The publisher and bookseller Walther König installed books in a library format in alignment with the ‘concept of d5’ in the ‘Information’ section of the exhibition, encouraging visitors to roam through his fully functioning bookshop and peruse the books at will. Located just in front of Joseph Beuys’ Büro des Organisation für direkte Demokratie with the artist engaging with d5 participants, the bookshop-library received a steady stream of visitors. Beuys himself frequently visited the shop and discouraged the bookseller from replacing the smudged display copies of books, stating ‘the dirtier the better.’”

This catalogue offers the books of Ruscha, LeWitt, Baldessari, Brouwn, Dibbets, Dardoven, Flavin, Gilbert & George, Haacke, Huebler, Judd, Long, Lippard, Weiner, Siegelaub, Cage, Oldenburg, Ono, Filliou, Rot, Ray Johnson, Huebler, Broodthaers, Warhol, etc., etc.

A nice copy; a couple of creases to the upper cover.
