Meng wen zi mu biao [Chart of Mongol Orthography].

Printed throughout in Mongol. 12 folding leaves. 8vo, orig. printed wrappers. [Shanghai]: Shang wu yin shu guan, [1934].

First edition and very rare; WorldCat locates only two photocopies. This is an introduction to Mongol orthography. The invention of the first lead-type printing press for the Mongolian language in 1922 by Temgetu (in Chinese: Ruichang Wang; 1888-1939), a Mongol nationalist who received his education in Japan, allowed for the publication of many books, newspapers, and journals in that language.

This book was published by the Commercial Press of Shanghai, founded in 1897. It became a major publisher of textbooks and continues its activities today in Beijing.

Fine copy. With thanks to Soren Edgren for pointing us in the right direction.
