Versuch einer Wiederherstellung des toskanischen Tempels nach seinen historischen und technischen Analogien.

Two folding engraved plates from Klenze’s drawings. 86 pp., one leaf of errata. Folio, cont. red sheep maroquiné, sides decorated with gilt fillets, flat spine gilt, green morocco lettering piece on spine, a.e.g. Munich: 1821.

First separate edition of one of Klenze’s earliest publications, a separately paginated offprint from Vol. VIII of the Denkschriften der königl. Akademie der Wissenschaften of Munich. This copy, printed on large and thick paper, is finely bound, and comes from the Wittelsbach library of the dukes and kings of Bavaria.

“More than any other architect of the first half of the nineteenth century — with the possible exception of Karl Friedrich Schinkel — Leo von Klenze (1784-1864), formed the image of a German town through his buildings and his plans. With some twenty buildings, he set the monumental scale for the development of Munich into a court city of European rank.”–Placzek, Macmillan Encyclopedia of Architects, Vol. II, p. 567.

This work is primarily concerned with studies of the reconstruction of the Greek temples, which consolidated Klenze’s Greco-classicistic architectural vision.

Very fine copy.
