The sale catalogue of one of the richest and most varied libraries sold at auction during the 1880s; it contained numerous books with famous provenances, celebrated bindings, etc. It is interesting to note that Béhague was amongst the pioneers in collecting French 18th-century illustrated books, which had only become fashionable during the 1870s.

The Comte de Béhague (1827-79), was followed by his daughter, Martine (1870-1939), also a great book and art collector.
